MacArthur Airport is about to go under the microscope with the formation of a new task force designed to scrutinize its operations.
MacArthur Airport has been plagued by a rash of safety problems that include a cracked concrete apron, air conditioning and heating system troubles, and fire sprinkler issues at its restaurant. Those problems have prompted several investigations and have now led the town of Islip supervisor to form a nine-member task force of aviation and security professionals. Members of the new task force believe there is room to grow at the airport. They are charged with reviewing how to best manage the airport, meet new federal security requirements, and move airplanes and passengers in the most effective way.
The task force is expected to issue its recommendations to the Islip Town board in 90 days.
