The former head of a Long Island nonprofit is accused of spending charity money on herself.
After a two-week trial, a jury convicted Wafa Abboud, of Merrick, Tuesday.
The 51-year-old ran Human First, a Lynbrook-based nonprofit that serves New Yorkers with developmental, psychiatric and neurological disabilities.
Prosecutors say she used nearly $1 million in charity money to pay for things like Broadway show tickets, cosmetic surgeries and her mortgage.
Abboud now faces up to 30 years in prison.
