A Lynbrook couple reunited Monday with a police officer who helped deliver their baby in a chaotic scene in their Lynbrook bathroom last month.
Ray and Rebecca Mansour had a healthy baby boy, thanks in part to Officer Anthony Falsitta.
On May 31, the expecting mother started crowning in her bathroom while waiting for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. She knew she was running out of time, and her husband called 911.
Falsitta was in the area and heard the news over dispatch.
"I figured I had better start heading over," he says. "I went and checked and saw the baby's head...It was pretty much go time."
Falsitta and other officers entered the home and ended up helping her deliver the couple's son, Ray Jr., who was born at a healthy 6 pounds 8 ounces.
"It was hectic, but at the same time, you are always told when you push through training for certain things that you kind of go to autopilot," he says. "That's pretty much how it went."
Police say that if the officers had shown up three minutes later, Mansour would have been delivering the baby by herself. But after the commotion, the Mansours realized they didn't even know the name of the man who helped deliver their son.
Was he a paramedic or a cop? They didn't know until the new father called police and was given Falsitta's name.
Now, the couple says they can't wait to tell their sown about how he came into this world.
"He was really rushing to get into this world -- two weeks early, in the bathroom, almost in the toilet," they say. "I hope he's not embarrassed by this story."
