Thousands of people headed to Jones Beach State Park Sunday for the annual Lustgarten Foundation Walk.

Residents who lost friends and family members to pancreatic cancer marched alongside survivors to raise money for research.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2,700 New York residents will die from the disease this year.

Organizers say the walk raised about $1 million for pancreatic cancer research. Since its inception 20 years ago, the foundation has contributed more than $165 million to research.

All of the money raised from the walk goes to pancreatic cancer research. Some of that research is being done at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
