The Loop Parkway Bridge closed at 10 p.m. Friday for weekend repairs, the state DOT says.
The closure is from the Meadowbrook State Parkway to Lido Boulevard in both directions.
The DOT says it's a must to upgrade the 85-year-old bridge.
Many residents say closing one of the main arteries into the barrier islands is going to cause a big headache for people who live and visit the area.
Frankie Florio of the Point Lookout Deli says he's concerned the closure will hurt business.
Anyone headed to the Point Lookout or Long Beach area this weekend must take an alternative route such as Long Beach Road, which will likely add time to the commute.
The DOT advises those traveling to and from the area to leave extra time for the commute.
The Loop Bridge Parkway is set to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday morning.
