Election Day is over, but Americans do not yet know who will be their president for the next four years.
Currently, both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are carrying many states they were expected to -- Trump has been declared the winner of key battleground state of Florida, while the Associated Press called Biden victorious in Wisconsin and Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
It appears the race will come down to states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.
Both President Trump and Biden spoke early Wednesday morning, with Biden asking voters for patience, while Trump said they were getting ready to celebrate because his margins were greater in states that hadn't been called just yet.
Trump claimed, "This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election, frankly we did win this election."
Trump also fired off a series of tweets, claiming without evidence that votes are being cast after the polls closed and that his leads in Democrat-controlled states are disappearing because of surprise ballot dumps.
Many of the president's tweets Wednesday have been flagged as being misleading.
News 12 has spoken with commuters all day, and voters said they expected they'd have to wait for results, but they didn't anticipate the presidential race being so tight.
Although results will continue to pour in Wednesday, mail-in ballots could take to the end of the week or early next week to be finalized. In New York, absentee ballots won't even begin to be counted until Nov. 10.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is already preparing to wage a legal battle, attempting to halt vote counting in Michigan.
