Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that more than $2 million has been awarded to Long Island law enforcement agencies to reduce gun violence.

The funding is part of a broader $36 million initiative called the New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE).

GIVE covers 21 counties, including regions such as the Mid-Hudson, Central New York and Finger Lakes.

Hochul’s office says this is the fourth consecutive year she secured record-level funding for GIVE.

“I remain committed to working with law enforcement and all stakeholders to ensure safer streets and communities for families throughout every corner of our state,” she said.

Hochul says shootings inside communities participating in GIVE have declined 19% through Aug. 2026 compared to the same time last year.

Suffolk County is one of five police departments that saw a double digit decrease at 24%.
