In ways big and small, people across Long Island are doing their part to help Florida recover from Hurricane Irma.

Army National Guard members took off from MacArthur Airport in four fully loaded Apache helicopters, ready to do their part to rescue those in need.

The town of Oyster Bay is helping out with the Irma relief effort by accepting donations at several town buildings, including Town Hall. The town is teaming up with Island Harvest to bring much-needed non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, and toiletries to affected areas.

D Squared Boutique in Plainview is one Long Island business that's holding a relief drive. The women's clothing store is donating 10 percent of sales to hurricane victims, and is asking shoppers to bring in supplies that it will match and then ship to shelters in Florida.

The governor of Florida says around 6.7 million homes and businesses are without power, about 65 percent of the state's population.
