Music, dancing and fireworks kicked off the "Alive on 25 Street Festival" in Riverhead Friday.
The event is one of four planned this summer in the historic district of the town.
Residents are thrilled to keep the party close to their homes.
"I think it's bringing a lot of people to downtown Riverhead, which is great for the community and great for businesses in Riverhead," says Deidre Hanbach.
Other events happening this holiday weekend on Long Island include the Empire State Fair in Uniondale, the Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular in Central Islip and the Broadway Commons Carnival in Hicksville.
