More than 1,000 people gathered Saturday in Huntington Station to honor those who have made a difference in the black community.Honorees at the annual Long Island Coalition of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) fundraiser are all from within the judicial system. President of NAACP Eastern Long Island Lucius Ware says they believe the judicial system needs to include more people of color. Ware says the 12 honorees are a representation of the advancements of the black community.The annual ceremony fell on a historic day with Senator Barack Obama?s (D-IL) announcement to run for presidency in 2008. Obama?s supporters say his candidacy has the potential to change not only black history, but U.S. history.
