Many Long Island residents say they are feeling the pinch at the pump as they prepare to travel during the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
High gas prices have many saying they will stay closer to home this year. Others say they plan on staying at home and firing up the barbecue. AAA estimates those traveling by car will increase only 1 percent over last year, while air travel will increase 18 percent.
Local police say they will have sobriety checkpoints set up along highways and near the water to curb drunk driving.
