Many Long Islanders celebrated Easter with some time-honored traditions as they marked one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar. Dressed in their Sunday, best hundreds packed St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Center to celebrate the joy of Jesus? resurrection. Parishioners said the holiday means family, joy and celebration. Besides attending church, many Long Islanders celebrate Easter with a sweet tradition at Riesterer Bakery in West Hempstead. The bakery has turned out a confection of chocolate bunnies, rabbit lollipops and cakes for 75 years. This Easter the bakery made over 20,000 candy rabbits.
