The bitter blast of cold continues today as commuters headed out to work.
News 12 Long Island's Darius Radzius was at the Mineola train station where Long Island Rail Road passengers were bundled up from head to toe.
Nassau and Suffolk officials say they are concerned about the conditions, and tell residents to stay indoors and check on people who are at risk. They also suggest running water to keep the pipes from freezing.
Both counties set up hotlines for anyone in need of temporary housing during the freezing temperatures.
For Suffolk, temporary housing assistance can be found by calling 631-854-9547. In Nassau County, the number is 1-866-WARMBED.
