Stores are opening earlier than ever for holiday shoppers, including the Best Buy in Huntington Station, which opened shortly after many Americans sat down for Thanksgiving dinner.
Many consumers say the day should be reserved for spending time with family, while others snuck out to take advantage of holiday deals.
Some spent hours waiting outside of stores, hoping to get inside before hot door-buster items sold out.
"It's sad actually," says Caesar Calderone, a Huntington man who ventured out to shop. "And I'd hate to say it's sad because I just bought lamps. But I bought lamps for my mother."
Later in the evening, shoppers flocked to retail stores and malls to line up for the traditional Black Friday sales.
