Long Islanders await checks from New York Rising to rebuild after Sandy
Residents say they're still not getting the money they need to rebuild after Superstorm Sandy.
Long Island storm victims say they have yet to receive aid from New York Rising, a federal grant program aimed at helping Sandy victims get back into their homes.
Jon Kaiman, who was appointed to run New York Rising on Long Island, says the program is now funded and has closed on some grants.
However, he says the program needs time to make sure that the correct amount of money goes to victims. Kaiman also says extra time is needed to guard against fraud.
It has been 13 months since Sandy devastated the area.
