(11/22/07) HEMPSTEAD ? Volunteers for the Interfaith Nutrition Network said Long Islanders have answered the call to help others this Thanksgiving.
Robert Kammerer of INN said a recent call for donations and volunteers was met with a very enthusiastic response. As a result, the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead was able to feed the hungry on Thanksgiving. According to Kammerer, about 4,000 turkeys were sent from the Hempstead location.
A traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings highlighted Thanksgiving at the Mary Brennan INN. For the holiday itself, volunteers were not needed. However, Kammerer said every day is Thanksgiving at INN and he urges people interested in volunteering to do so any other day of the year.
