Suffolk police are offering a crash course in crash avoidance to some of the most inexperienced drivers on Long Island.
AAA reports 16- and 17-year-olds are among the most dangerous drivers on the road. Experts say driver inexperience is one of the major causes of deadly car accidents involving teens on Long Island, with 14 fatalities already this year in that age group. Sergeant Carl Moller says the program is designed to throw a lot of hazardous situations the teens? way and show them how they can or cannot handle a specific incident. He says teens will learn how to steer clear of dangerous situations.
The free course takes place in Westhampton and is open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 18. It begins August 2.
