Most Long Island residents who spoke with News 12 say L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling got what he deserved.
Sterling received a lifetime ban from the NBA and a $2.5 million fine for allegedly making racist comments in a recorded conversation that was made public online.
"I think he deserves it. There's no reason why he should have said that about Magic Johnson, one of the most important guys in NBA history," said David Wahnon, of West Islip.
Ted Adams, a former Hempstead High School basketball coach, says the most important consequence is not the punishment handed down, but the lessons learned.
Adams says the NBA may have taken away Sterling's position of power and may eventually take away his team, but he believes Sterling's greatest loss is the respect of his peers, players and the public.
