Long Islanders spent Sunday preparing for a winter blast that's expected to dump several inches of snow across the Island.
A heavy snow warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Monday. Forecasters are predicting 3 to 6 inches in Nassau County and 1 to 3 inches in Suffolk County, which may make driving conditions dangerous.
Michael Falcone, of East Northport, was among shoppers stocking up on scrapers, shovels and deicer at a Commack Home Depot. "This will help with the windshield on the automobile, put some on the locks on the cars and everything," Falcone said. "I'm always prepared. I'm an ex-Marine."
Oyster Bay crews also spent the day prepping for the worst. "Salt and sanding operation will begin at the onset of the storm ? we're fully anticipating probably around midnight we're going to be in a plowing operation," said town Supervisor John Venditto.
Some took the impending storm in stride. "I'm not doing anything really," said Adam Stern, of East Northport. "I'm just going to go about my business."
Meanwhile, in the Town of North Hempstead, trucks were filled with sand and salt, while plows were prepped. The town is expected to be hit with the brunt of the storm.
