Syosset's Sue Bird is no stranger to winning basketball championships.
The 35-year-old basketball legend has a perfect Olympic record - a combined 24-0 in three Olympic games.
"We are 12 of the best players in the country and this country has serious talent, so right then and there it's a huge honor," Bird told News 12 Long Island.
There are only five athletes in Olympic history to win 4 basketball medals.
Besides her three Olympic golds, Bird has two college championships and two WNBA titles.
But wearing USA across her chest means something a little different.
"When I wore UConn in college, there might've been a fan from another school that didn't like me," said Bird. "When I wear Seattle in the WNBA there may be a Liberty fan that doesn't like Seattle. But when you put USA on, everyone's your fan."
Bird's quest for another gold medal begins Sunday as the U.S. takes on China.
