Last summer, the U.S. women's soccer team won the World Cup, but Rockville Centre's Crystal Dunn was left off the team and was the last player cut.

Dunn said while it broke her heart, it also made her a better player.
One year later, Dunn is one of Team USA's leading scorers, and a first-time Olympian hoping for gold in Rio.
Dunn was a star even when she attended South Side High School a decade ago, winning three state titles and Player of the Year awards. The 24-year-old made the national team three years ago while attending college.
Dunn and her team start their road to the gold Wednesday night against New Zealand, two days before the opening ceremonies.
Team USA is currently on a 15-game unbeaten streak.
