A Long Island nonprofit organization had to cancel its annual fall festival due to the pandemic, so organizers came up with a safer way to celebrate.
Angels of Long Island organized a drive-thru Halloween event called "Trunk-or-Treat,” where families can pick up treats without getting out of their own cars.
"The kids are going to stay in the car, so there's no contact, and volunteers will be in a mask," says Debbie Loesch, of the organization.
Infectious Disease Specialist at Northwell Health Dr. David Hirschwerk says people should avoid higher risk activities, like attending crowded costume parties indoors.
However, he says leaving baskets of candy outside your home for trick-or-treaters is safe.
"I think it's fine for people to leave candy out and grab it," Hirschwerk says.
