Recommendations on breakfast from Dr. Banks:
"I say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I tell my patients that if you don't do breakfast you're gonna do diabetes.
If you don't eat a breakfast that's balanced and what I mean by balanced is protein, carbohydrate and fat you will spike your blood sugar and you will raise your cortisol levels and that causes insulin resistance and that causes your body to put on fat. So if you really want to lose weight or control inflammation and keep your body health breakfast becomes the most important meal of the day.
Most people either skip breakfast or they have a breakfast cereal which is like starting your day with dessert because it's mostly sugar carbohydrate turns into sugar.
You want a balanced meal so that you can balance your blood sugar and balance your insulin levels. If you just have a roll or a bagel or a muffin or a breakfast cereal you're gonna spike your blood sugar and then in about 45 minutes it's gonna crash low and then you're gonna be hungry and you're gonna end up eating more carbohydrate."
