A Long Island resident skateboarding across the country — all for a good cause.
East Farmingdale’s Chad Caruso is starting his 3,000-mile trek from California to Long Island. He’s doing it to raise awareness for mental health and youth addiction.
News 12 Long Island spoke to Caruso last week. He said he hopes to emphasize the importance of having passion in life.
"I got sober about five years ago. Ever since then I've had a lot of clarity and focus, and I wouldn’t have been able to come up with this idea if I hadn’t,” he said. “So, I want to help kids have the same vision.”
A quarter of the money raised from his trip will go to Natural High, a drug prevention nonprofit that inspires kids to develop skills and courage to live life healthy.
