Long Island lawmakers join fight to let all high school sports be played

"Let them play" has been a familiar rallying crying for high school athletes, coaches and parents, but now a Long Island lawmaker is backing legislation to force the state to do just that.
On Thursday, two Hudson Valley lawmakers said they believed all high school sports can be played now in a safe way. On Friday, Assemblyman Ed Ra joined the cause.
"I think the data around the country is showing this is not sources of spread, they've been very successful around the country in many states," says Ra (R-Franklin Square).
The legislation was pushed forward first by Assemblyman Colin Schmitt. Ra says the success of most Long Island schools should give the state optimism they can pull this off.
"I think we've also seen how safely our schools have operated, for a semester coming into the new year and I think that can bring a lot of positivity that if we follow the protocol, we can do this safely," says Ra.
In Suffolk County, Assemblyman Fred Thiele also told News 12 that he will back the legislation.
