Six veterans received keys today to new, low-cost homes in Islandia.

The development, just off Motor Parkway, is called Veterans Way and was built with donated land, supplies and labor to bring costs down.

Each family paid about $200,000 for their home, less than half the market rate.

The Long Island Home Builders Care Development Corp coordinated the project with the help of six different builders and hundreds of craftsmen.

It says that though the community is the first of its kind on Long Island, it's not going to be the last.
