Two Long Island families affected by Superstorm Sandy finally got some good news yesterday.

The Pizzuto and Anguilo families were both approved for more than $100,000 each in federal funding through the New York Rising program.

A spokesperson for New York Rising says it's ready to start writing checks as early as next week.

Applicants who are not satisfied with their award amounts can appeal the decision.
