A nurse at Long Island Community Hospital has died from the coronavirus, hospital representatives confirmed Wednesday.
The nurse was identified as Ali Guillermo, who officials say worked at the hospital for 15 years.
"Ali Guillermo was beloved by his patients in ICU and was an important member of our Long Island Community Hospital family. He personified our mission of compassionate care. Ali's passing is a sad and stark reminder that no person, no community, no institution is invulnerable to the COVID-19 virus," Long Island Community Hospital President and CEO Richard T. Margulis said in a statement.
"We mourn the loss of Ali Guillermo," he continued. "But celebrate his life and will always remember his hard work, his dedication and his heart."
