Long Island Cares has created a way for residents to hold virtual food drives for those in need.
Billy Gonyou, community events food drive manager for Long Island Cares, says donating virtually is one of the easiest ways to give.
Through the website yougivegoods.com, which is sponsored by Long Island Cares, people can help others within minutes.
"People can literally purchase food online and it gets shipped to us when the driver is over," Gonyou says.
Donators can pick from different presets and their options include more than food.
Gonyou say now is the best time to donate.
"I can tell you right now, including the summer, is probably when we need it the most," Gonyou says. "The kids that were receiving free, reduced lunch and breakfast are no longer receiving it, so those families need more access to food."
Gonyou says online donation along with in-person donations have dipped since the pandemic has eased.
