Judge hears arguments over bid to remove New York Attorney General Letitia James from Cornell 7 rape case

Attorneys for one of the students accused of the sexual assault argue that James is biased because of social media posts in which she expressed support for the alleged victim before Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed her to oversee the case.

A judge is set to hear arguments on whether New York Attorney General Letitia James should be removed as special prosecutor in the Cornell seven rape case.

Attorneys for one of the students accused of the sexual assault argue that James is biased because of social media posts in which she expressed support for the alleged victim before Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed her to oversee the case.

The defense contends those statements show prejudice against the accused and warrant her removal.

James has rejected that claim, saying her comments reflected empathy for survivors of sexual violence and did not amount to a prejudgment of the case.
