Long Island Cares hosted its third annual Truckers for Turkey event Sunday morning.

The event was located at the theater in Westbury. 

Over 100 trucks from both in state and out of state dropped off food items for those in need. 

Organizers say its not only important to donate food items for people, but also to donate food for pets.

Organizers at Long Island Cares say one in five Long Islanders are in need of food. They say if a family is in need of food items, they can contact Long Island Cares. 

Last year, organizers say they raised almost 10,000 pounds of food and they hope to surpass that mark this year.
