The City of Long Beach is suing two people who authorities say planned an illegal party last month. The gathering was stopped by police and did not take place.
Officials say police presence was increased ahead of the planned event, at a cost of $24,000 to taxpayers. The lawsuit was intended to recover those costs.
The event had been planned for June 19. Six days prior, on June 13, thousands of people were on the beach in a chaotic scene that included the shooting of a 16-year-old.
Long Beach officials say the two party promoters named in the lawsuit live in Queens and in Inwood in the Five Towns.
