Multiple sources confirm to News 12 that a person was shot near the Long Beach LIRR train station.
The crowd became so large on the beach that the Long Beach Police Department had to call in Nassau County police for assistance at around 6 p.m. in the interest of safety.
Once police cleared the beach, the group of mostly young people went out onto the streets.
In previous years, fights have broken out when there were large crowds on the boardwalk in Long Beach.
Riptides say it was forced to close because of the chaos from the crowds.
The MTA announced that the Long Beach branch of the LIRR was suspended between Long Beach and Island Park at the request of police as they continue to investigate.
It's not clear if anyone was arrested.
