Long Beach cancels first day of school due to street flooding
Thursday morning's rain caused flooding significant enough in Long Beach that its public schools canceled the first day of class due to impassable roads.
In a statement on Facebook, the district says buses could not get through and many staff members were unable to get to the school buildings due to the flooding.
The school says it will open Friday.
In video taken in Long Beach, some roads were seen completely under water. Roads were flooded by as much as 5-6 inches of water
Long Beach wasn't alone -- in Seaford, St. William The Abbot School canceled classes for grades 4,7 and 8 due to extensive flooding.
