Some daredevils braved the blistering cold and frigid water in Long Beach Sunday to carry on a charitable tradition.
Polar Bear Swim members participated in the 10th Annual Long Beach Polar Bear Super Bowl Swim. News 12 Long Island weatherman Rich Hoffman also took the plunge. Money raised at the event goes toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which makes dreams come true for ill children. Club founders Peter Meyers and Kevin McCarthy say they've helped raise $461,000 over the years.
For some, taking the icy dip is part of a spiritual awakening. They say it's also gratifying to know they're helping children.
