The Long Beach boardwalk reopened Thursday after being closed for nearly two months. If you want to enjoy it though, guidelines to keep everyone safe and healthy must be followed.
The City of Long Beach posted the following guidelines to its website:
-The boardwalk will be open from dawn to dusk. Bicycle riding will only be allowed from sunrise to 10 a.m.
-Masks are required if social distancing isn’t possible.
-There will be two lanes of traffic and a middle lane for bike riding. The southern side of the boardwalk shall be designated for eastbound traffic, the northern side of the boardwalk shall be designated for westbound traffic.
-Idling will not be allowed at entrances and exits to the boardwalk, or on the boardwalk. Every other bench will be closed off to encourage social distancing.
-Concessions will be available, but there will be restrictions in place in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders. There will be no sit-down service. Grab and go only.
-Bathrooms will be open, but only two people will be allowed in at a time.
Special patrols will be on the boardwalk to ensure all guidelines are being followed.
Residents that News 12 Long Island spoke with said they didn’t mind the new rules.
Maureen Clarke has been excited to get back out and bike on the boardwalk.
She said, "It’s not too much. If this is what is going to keep everybody safe, we are willing to come up at 6 a.m. We have 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. so we are going to get it in early."
Restrictions at the boardwalk aren’t the only thing the City of Long Beach is doing to stop the spread of coronavirus.
As of May 20, only residents are able to purchase daily and seasonal beach passes. All passes purchased by non-residents beforehand will be honored.
