Local leaders are trying to deter students from drinking and driving ahead of prom season.
Police, doctors, educators and advocates joined forces Tuesday in Mineola to send a message to teens.
They stressed the dangers of drinking and driving, as well as distracted driving.
School officials in Garden City say they are taking extra steps to make sure students stay sober and safe.
"We bus the students to prom," says Garden City High School Principal Nanine McLaughlin. "They are not allowed to leave until midnight, and the next morning we have a mandatory graduation rehearsal and breakfast."
Garden City school officials will also have Breathalyzers on hand.
