Vaneca Delacruz, of Bridgeport, who's from Bayaguana in the Dominican Republic, spent much of Tuesday following the news of the deadly roof collapse in her homeland on social media.
"In my town, which is 36 miles from Santo Domingo, we know of one person who was killed, two people who were injured and three people who are hospitalized, so it's been a difficult and very painful day," Delacruz told News 12.
Dr. Dennis Bradley, father of the Bridgeport attorney by the same name, is from Santo Domingo.
"When we found out that Rubby Perez, the iconic singer from our country, was killed, we were all very, very sad," Bradley said.
Bradley's son is encouraging anyone who has been impacted by the tragedy and is seeking information about the dead, missing and injured to contact the Dominican Consulate in New York or the Dominican Embassy in Washington, D.C. at, respectively, 212-362-9370 or 202-328-6611.
