Mac O'Keefe's pro lacrosse career is going really well in terms of winning championships ... he now has two of them in three Premier Lacrosse League seasons.
The Syosset native won his latest championship Sept. 24 when he helped the Archers LC beat the Waterdogs in a thrilling 15-14 win.
"Having one championship under my belt, I kind of knew what it took to climb the top of the mountain," O'Keefe told News12's Kevin Maher in an exclusive interview.
He joined the Archers this season after spending his first two years playing for the Chaos. The move not only ended with a championship, O'Keefe also finished with a career-high 35 points in the regular season.
He scored three goals in the championship game and watched as fellow Long Islander and league MVP Tom Schreiber scored the eventual game-winning goal in the final minutes.
"He shows up when it matters the most, and he's a guy you can always rely on," said O'Keefe. He also said Schieber makes it "easy" to play with him.
O'Keefe said the celebration on the field and in the locker room was "wild" with beer flowing and cameras rolling. He even convinced the starting goalie to celebrate with a "shoey," by pouring beer into his cleat and drinking out of it.
"It's pretty foul. But in the heat of the moment, it's a celebration - so you let it rip," explained O'Keefe.
So yes, Mac O'Keefe has been there and done it again with another PLL championship on his resume. He knows that makes him fortunate, and he's glad he can share the glory too.
"Over these past few days after the game, I've been thinking more and more about it - just how cool it is. Not only to experience it myself, but also with my family and friends," he said.
