Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service was restored early Thursday from Hicksville to Huntington after a deadly crash.

A commuter train collided with a car on an eastbound LIRR train at Robbins Lane in Syosset Wednesday. Police say the unidentified man inside the car was killed. LIRR officials say no one aboard the train was hurt in the crash. The train engineer was taken to Syosset Hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and released.

Police officials are not sure how the car got on the tracks, but know that it was stopped when it was hit by the train. The accident is under investigation, but police say it does not appear to be criminal in nature. The train had left Hunterspoint Avenue at 5:47 p.m. and was due to arrive in Port Jefferson at 7:30 p.m.
