Long Island Rail Road riders faced major construction delays over the weekend, but the transportation agency promises to have service back on track Monday.
The LIRR spent the weekend eliminating a crossing in Mineola. The construction work forced the LIRR to suspend service on the main line between Hicksville and Mineola. Buses replaced trains Saturday and Sunday.
"This construction project is ahead of schedule and we have a high confidence with this work effort that we'll be ready with full service tomorrow," said LIRR President Helena Williams.
However, riders were a little skeptical."It's going to be a big hassle in the morning if it's not finished," said commuter Mary DiTomas.
The LIRR encouraged riders heading to Sunday night's Mets game to consider using the Port Washington line, which is not affected by the project.
