Helena Williams, the first female president of the Long Island Railroad, is being replaced after seven years on the job.
Williams says she's proud of the contributions she made during her time with the LIRR, including bringing in new technology and modernizing the railroad.
The move comes amid intense negotiations between the MTA and the LIRR workers' union. The union and the MTA have been deadlocked over wages for almost four years.
Williams tells News 12 Long Island she doesn't feel her being let go has to do with a potential strike by rail workers, as she's not involved in negotiations.
MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast has replaced Williams with Patrick Nowakowski, who takes over on May 12.
