Long Islanders will see smaller LIPA bills this month.

LIPA says a 30 percent decrease in the utility's October power supply charge translates into a savings of about $23 per month for ratepayers.

LIPA officials say that charge covers what it costs the utility to buy fuel and extra power that isn't generated on the utility's behalf.

The charge fluctuates month to month. According to LIPA's records, it has gone down six out of the past 10 months.
