LIPA Chairman Richard Kessel testified in front of the Suffolk Legislature Wednesday to answer some questions about the utility company?s sale to a British company.
London-based utility company National Grid acquired KeySpan in a $7.3 billion deal. Kessel told Suffolk lawmakers that his main concern was for Long Island ratepayers. He adds he is hoping the acquisition will help customers with their bills.
Meanwhile, when questioned about the controversial fuel surcharge, Kessel admits the fee hurts his company?s credibility. Kessel also says he has reached out to the Public Service Commission to review the surcharge and see if it is equitable and appropriate.
