A researcher at Cornell University says there is a link between the West Nile virus and foreclosed homes.David Pimentel says the link is due to stagnant water at homes that have been unattended for several months. There have been 14 cases of West Nile this year in Nassau County and five cases in Suffolk County. Three of those cases have been fatal.Aerial spraying was recently done in areas of Nassau County that happen to be where the county has seen a significant increase in foreclosed homes.Nassau health officials told Newsday they are considering the theory, but will need to look at additional scientific information.
