Lawyers for the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System are asking a judge to throw the book at a woman who claimed she received contaminated tissue.
Patricia Battisti, of Franklin Square, received a letter warning her of contaminated tissue samples that came from a Brooklyn lab at the center of a body part theft ring. Battisti sued the hospital after she says she tested positive for syphilis, but further testing has contradicted her claim.
Meanwhile, the two alleged ringleaders of the tissue theft ring were arrested in Brooklyn. Officials say the pair is expected to be charged with 122 counts of stealing body parts and selling tissue. Authorities say PVC piping was used to replace bones and dupe more than 30 funeral homes.
