Today, many Long Islanders remembered the thousands of victims, including nearly 500 Long Islanders, who died on Sept. 11.
Family and friends who lost loved ones 14 years ago attended a special ceremony at Point Lookout.
The 9/11 service of remembrance was held at Town Park Point Lookout.
The location is where crowds spontaneously gathered in the wake of the terrorist attacks, looking westward toward the rising smoke where the once towers stood.
