The holiday gift rush was on in Garden City for much of Black Friday.
Long Island shoppers cut their Thanksgiving short to wait for hours outside stores, eager to snap up the sale items.
Some Long Islanders told News 12 that they were out shopping since the wee hours of the morning to get the best deals.
The National Retail Federation expects the daylong shopping frenzy to lead to a 4.1 percent growth in sales this holiday season. Retail analyst Marshal Cohen says he doesn't expect competition from online shopping sites to keep a lot of people out of the stores.
Cohen says if you missed the Black Friday bargains, stores will continue to offer good deals until the end of the season.
Roosevelt Field Mall will have extended holiday hours throughout this weekend.
