Two Long Island college students who were gunned down in Arizona Sunday were buried in adjacent plots Wednesday.Separate funerals were held Wednesday for Carol Kestenbaum, of Bellmore, and Nicole Schiffman, of Merrick. The best friends were killed over the weekend while Schiffman was visiting Kestenbaum at Arizona State University. Tempe police say the pair was coming home from a night out when 22-year-old Joshua Mendel shot them both in the parking lot of Kestenbaum's apartment. Police say Mendel then turned the gun on himself. According to Mendel's sister, the shooter admitted to his family that he was suicidal and promised to seek help. Tempe police also report Mendel called 911 on Super Bowl Sunday to ask for alcohol rehab information, which officers delivered.
