A Long Island teacher was arrested Saturday, less than one day after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with her 16-year-old student.
Heather Kennedy, a former Wantagh math teacher, was accused of violating a restraining order just hours after being released from jail. The prosecutor in the case says the 26-year-old Massapequa woman sent three letters to her teenage lover while she was behind bars.
Kennedy's attorney, Steven Zimmer, says the letters were sent in August and September, and he finds it disturbing that his client has been slapped with these latest charges now. The prosecutor says the teen's family brought the letters to police Friday night.
Zimmer says his client, who was forced to surrender her teaching certificate, is just trying to get on with her life and has broken off all ties with the teen.
Kennedy pleaded not guilty to three criminal contempt charges, and her parents posted a $15,000 bail. Because of her original conviction, Kennedy has to register as a Level 3 sex offender.
